Creative Santa Fe and Santa Fe Alliance Sponsor Santa Fe City Councilors Forum

Jan. 28, 2008 | Santa Fe, NM – Santa Fe Alliance, Creative Santa Fe, and the Green Business Network are pleased to announce that we will co-sponsor a forum for Santa Fe City Council candidates in the Santa Fe Community College Jemez Room on Thursday, February 21 from 6-8 pm. Gershon Siegel, Editor of The Sun Monthly, and former Alliance board member, will co-facilitate the forum with Walter Drew. Mr. Drew, a former member of the Santa Fe Historic Design Review Board and resident of Santa Fe for the past 40 years, is a mediator in construction disputes.

The co-sponsors have also encouraged social studies/government teachers in middle and high schools and instructors at SFCC to consider structuring a project for their students centered on this forum, and to bring students to the forum.

The candidates have received the following questions for the forum:

1. Please give an example of how you would move Santa Fe into a green economy.

2. If Santa Fe is truly to be a center for arts and creative enterprise, it must be able to provide young, emerging talent with affordable live/work space, access to local markets, and opportunities to develop careers. By what means can our city do this and what should be the role of city government in the process to help young emerging artistic talent?

3. According to the 2004 UNM BBER study on the Arts and Culture Industry in Santa Fe, what percentage of the workforce is employed in these sectors? How do you see the City's role in sustaining and growing these industries?

4. What percentage of a dollar spent in a locally owned independent business is recycled into our local economy versus dollars spent at a chain or big box store? What is the City's role in supporting its locally owned independent businesses?

5. Outline your vision for the implementation of the City's Angelou Economic Development plan.

6. What is your recipe for a sustainable neighborhood in Santa Fe? What tools would you put in place to support sustainable neighborhoods?

The Santa Fe Alliance, Creative Santa Fe, and the Green Business Network are proud to be partnering on many local initiatives and projects. For more information on our collective partnerships, please contact us:
